Odyst provides a curated, read-only collection of Japanese folklore: yokai, demons, legendary figures, and sacred places. There are no user accounts, no comments, and no community-submitted content.

Many traditional folktales are in the public domain. However, our specific retellings, translations, illustrations, organisation, and the design of this site are protected by copyright. Personal, non-commercial reading and citation are welcome. Reuse beyond that requires permission. Write to support@odyst.com.

These are folktales, myths, and legends, shaped over centuries of retelling. They reflect the beliefs of their time and place. We present them with respect, but they are not religious instruction or academic scholarship. See the disclaimer for more.

We try to keep Odyst online and current, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, pause, or remove features at any time.
